A Tribute to Dr. Theodore Blakeney

Founder, Mentor, Educator, Advocate

The Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation of Maryland proudly recognizes Dr. Theodore Blakeney, a founding member whose vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment have helped shape the Foundation’s impact on generations of young people throughout Prince George’s County and the Washington Metropolitan Area. A devoted Kappa man from his earliest days in the Fraternity(Gamma Omicron, Fall 59), Dr. Blakeney attended the very first Undergraduate Leadership Conference in 1961, the program that later became the C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference (CRWLC). Established under the enduring theme “Training for Leadership,” the conference was created to develop young men into effective leaders, scholars, and servants of their communities. For Dr. Blakeney, this was not merely a conference theme; it became a lifelong calling. Throughout his career and service to the Foundation, he embodied the principles of leadership, scholarship, mentorship, and achievement that the conference was designed to inspire. His life’s work reflects the very spirit of “Training for Leadership” through his tireless efforts to open doors, create opportunities, and empower underserved youth to pursue excellence in every field of human endeavor.,

After decades of distinguished service, Dr. Blakeney has officially retired from his leadership role with the Foundation. While stepping away from his day-to-day responsibilities, he remains actively engaged through Dr. Blakeney’s Korner, where he will continue sharing educational resources, college readiness information, scholarship opportunities, and words of encouragement for students and families.

Countless students have benefited from his mentorship, guidance, and steadfast belief that education is the gateway to opportunity. Whether connecting students with internships, encouraging college aspirations, supporting SAT preparation programs, sharing research opportunities, or championing academic excellence, Dr. Blakeney has devoted himself to helping young people realize their fullest potential.

His legacy is measured not only by programs created or scholarships awarded, but by the lives transformed, dreams inspired, and futures made possible through his service.

Today, the Foundation expresses its deepest gratitude for his extraordinary leadership and lifelong commitment to empowering the next generation.

His work reminds us that true leadership is not measured by what we achieve for ourselves, but by the opportunities we create for others.
